The story

The Sunny Island of Corsica

I float in the big, blue water like a green jewel. The sun warms my face all day long. My head is covered with tall, green mountains, and my feet are warm, sandy beaches where little waves tickle my toes. I smell like sweet flowers and tall pine trees. People say I am very beautiful, and I feel so happy when they visit. They call me the 'Isle of Beauty'. Hello. My real name is Corsica.

My story is very long and full of sunshine. People have lived on my hills for a long, long time, even before your grandparents were born. In the 1500s, people built tall stone towers all along my shores. They were like super tall sandcastles that helped them watch for pirate ships out on the big water. Later, a kind leader named Pasquale Paoli helped write special, fair rules for everyone living here. That was in the year 1755. I also have a very special secret. A famous person named Napoleon Bonaparte was born right here in my city of Ajaccio. He was just a little baby on August 15th, 1769.

Today, I am a happy part of a country called France. But I have my own special songs that people love to sing and my own yummy snacks that are so good to eat. Families love to visit me. They come to splash in my warm waves and walk on my green mountain paths. I love to hear children laughing while they build sandcastles on my beaches. I love sharing my sunshine and my stories with everyone who comes to play. I am a happy island, always ready for a new friend and a new adventure.
