Can you smell that? It’s the warm scent of fresh bread, called baguettes, baking in an oven. Can you see my snowy mountains reaching for the clouds and my sunny beaches where waves tickle the shore? I have fields that bloom with purple lavender, making the air sweet. If you look at me on a map, you might notice I have a special shape with six sides, like a hexagon. I have so many stories to share with you. Hello, or as my people say, "Bonjour!". I am the country of France.

My story began a very, very long time ago. Before there were kings or castles, people called the Gauls lived on my lands. They were brave and loved nature. Then, around the year 58 BCE, visitors from a powerful place called Rome arrived. The Romans were amazing builders. They created big cities with theaters and aqueducts to carry water, and they built long, straight roads that connected my different parts. After the Romans, a group called the Franks came, and they had a very famous king named Charlemagne. He was a great leader who helped my people. In the year 843, my lands were divided in a new way, and I started to look a little more like the France you know today.

After that, came the time of towering castles with tall, pointy roofs and brave knights in shiny armor. It was an exciting time called the Middle Ages. During these years, I met a very courageous young woman named Joan of Arc. Around the year 1429, she helped lead my people and became a true hero. Later on, I had a king who loved everything to be grand and beautiful. His name was King Louis XIV, and he was called the Sun King because he wanted to shine so brightly. In the 1600s, he built the most amazing home you can imagine, the Palace of Versailles. It is so big it has thousands of shiny windows that glitter in the sun.

But my story isn't just about kings. On July 14th, 1789, my people decided they wanted a big change. This was the start of the French Revolution. They wanted a new way to live where everyone was treated fairly. They had three very important words: 'Liberty, Equality, Fraternity,' which means freedom, fairness, and friendship for all. It was a time of big ideas. Many years later, it was time for a big party. For the World’s Fair in 1889, a clever man named Gustave Eiffel built something spectacular in my city of Paris. He built a tall, iron tower that tickles the clouds. At first, some people said, “It’s too tall.” But soon, everyone loved it. That is my famous Eiffel Tower.

Today, I am a place filled with art, delicious food, and wonderful ideas. You can visit my famous museum, the Louvre, and see the Mona Lisa’s mysterious smile. You can taste yummy croissants for breakfast and delicious cheese for a snack. People from all over the world come to visit me, to see my beautiful cities, to share their art, and to design amazing clothes. I love having visitors and sharing my stories.
