Just want Honshu?
Imagine a long, curvy piece of land floating in a sparkling blue sea. That's me. I have tall, snowy mountains that tickle the clouds, and one of them, Mount Fuji, wears a white hat all year round. In some places, my cities are like giant boxes of crayons, with bright lights that twinkle all night long. In other places, I have quiet, green forests where you can hear the leaves whisper secrets to the wind. I love to change my clothes with the seasons. In the spring, I wear a beautiful pink dress of cherry blossoms. In the autumn, I put on a cozy sweater of red, orange, and yellow leaves. Millions of people live, work, and play on me every single day. I am Honshu, the biggest and busiest island in the country of Japan.
My story started a very, very long time ago. The first people came to live on my shores around 10,000 BCE, during a time called the Jomon period. They were clever and made beautiful pottery from clay. As centuries passed, emperors began to rule, living in grand palaces. Then came the shogun, who were brave warriors that protected the land. For a very long time, my heart was in a city called Kyoto. It became the capital in the year 794 CE and was filled with the most beautiful temples and peaceful gardens you have ever seen. People came from all over to see its beauty. But I kept growing and changing. Many years later, in the year 1868 CE, the emperor decided to move the capital to a busy city called Edo. To celebrate this big change, Edo was given a new name. It became Tokyo, which means "Eastern Capital." From that day on, Tokyo grew and grew into the giant, exciting city it is today, a place where anything feels possible.

Today, my heartbeat is fast and exciting. Silver dragons zoom across my land, but don't worry, they're friendly. People call them Shinkansen, or bullet trains, and they connect my big cities in the blink of an eye. One of the things I love most is how the old and the new live together here. You can visit an ancient, quiet temple in the morning and then look up at a shiny, tall skyscraper in the afternoon. My cities are filled with delicious food that will make your tummy happy, from yummy ramen noodles to colorful sushi. People celebrate with fun festivals full of music and dancing, and artists create amazing cartoons called anime that are loved all over the world. I am a home for millions of people and a place of endless discovery. I hope one day you will come visit and share in my wonders.
