The Sunny Peninsula's Story
I am a big piece of land hugged by the sparkly sea. The sun warms my sandy beaches and a cool breeze tickles my tall mountains. Long ago, sailors would search for me, a special corner of Europe where the big Atlantic Ocean and the warm Mediterranean Sea meet. I am the Iberian Peninsula, home to the wonderful countries of Spain and Portugal.
My story is very, very long. A long time ago, early people drew amazing pictures of animals deep inside my caves. Later, people called the Romans came and built strong roads and bridges that felt like long gray ribbons. After them, in the year 711, the Moors arrived and built beautiful palaces with pretty gardens and splashing fountains. Then, many years later, brave explorers sailed from my shores. One was named Christopher Columbus, who left on a big adventure on August 3rd, 1492, to find new parts of the world.
Today, I am a happy place filled with music, dancing, and yummy food. Families play on my beaches, and friends explore my old castles. I love sharing all my stories, from the ancient cave paintings to the cheerful modern cities. I am a place where many different adventures come together, and I will always have a warm, sunny welcome for you.
