The Marble House of Hope: A Story of the Lincoln Memorial

I stand at the end of a long, sparkling pool of water in a big, busy city called Washington, D.C. My white marble walls feel cool even on the warmest summer days, and my tall, strong columns reach for the blue sky. My steps are wide and welcoming, like open arms ready for a hug. Many people climb them every single day to come see me. I am the Lincoln Memorial, and I was built to remember a very special American hero, a man who believed that everyone should be free.
