Just want Popocatépetl?
I am a super tall, giant mountain. I wear a hat of white snow all year round, even when it’s sunny. I live in a beautiful country called Mexico, and I can see a very big city from way up here. Sometimes, I get a little rumbly in my tummy and I puff out a big, fluffy cloud of smoke. My name means 'Smoking Mountain' in a very old language. I am Popocatépetl.
I have been here for a very, very long time, long before the city was built. For thousands of years, I have watched the sun rise and set. The Aztec people gave me my name a long, long time ago. Right next to me is my friend, another volcano named Iztaccíhuatl. She looks like she is sleeping under a white blanket. Sometimes I get restless. On December 21st, 1994, I woke up and sent a big puff of ash into the sky to say hello. Scientists started watching me very closely after that to make sure everyone stays safe when I get rumbly.
Today, I am a famous mountain that people from all over the world come to see. They take pictures of my snowy peak against the bright blue sky. Artists paint me and writers tell stories about me and my sleeping friend. I remind everyone how powerful and wonderful nature is. I am proud to be a beautiful, smoking mountain, watching over the land and inspiring new stories every single day.
