Just want Rainbow Mountain?
Imagine you are so high up in the Andes Mountains of Peru that you can almost touch the fluffy white clouds. All around you are tall, serious mountains, but I am different. I have stripes of red, yellow, green, and even lavender painted across my sides. It looks like a giant rainbow decided to take a nap right here on the ground. Hello there. My name is Vinicunca, but many of my friends from all over the world have given me a special nickname. They call me Rainbow Mountain, and I love it.
My story began a very, very long time ago, millions of years before there were any people to see me. Deep inside the Earth, I was being made. Different kinds of sand and rock were squished together, layer by layer, like a giant, colorful sandwich. Each layer had special things inside called minerals. The layers with a mineral called iron turned a beautiful rusty red. Other layers had different minerals that made them bright yellow or a gentle green. For thousands and thousands of years, all my beautiful colors were a secret. I was hidden away from the world, sleeping under a thick, white blanket of snow and ice, just dreaming of the day I could show my stripes to the sun.
As the world grew a little bit warmer over many years, my snowy blanket started to melt, drip by drip. It felt like I was slowly waking up from the longest nap ever. Around the year 2013, my colors began to peek out for the very first time. First a little red stripe, then a yellow one. By the year 2015, my whole colorful coat was showing for everyone to see. Soon, people from all over the world heard stories of a mountain that looked like a rainbow. Brave hikers began to climb my slopes. When they reach my top, they look out at my colors shining in the sun and say, “Wow.” I love to see their happy, surprised faces.

A Rainbow of Hope
I love sharing my colorful stripes with everyone who visits. I am a beautiful reminder that our Earth is a wonderful artist, painting with rocks and minerals. The local Quechua people who have lived in these mountains for a very long time see me as a special, sacred place, and they help take good care of me. I hope that when you see me, you remember that our planet is full of amazing, colorful wonders just waiting to be discovered and protected. Always keep your eyes open for the magic in the world.
