Just want Salzburg?
Can you hear that. It’s the sound of music floating on the breeze. High up on a hill, a giant white fortress watches over everything, and down below, a sparkling river flows gently by. In my beautiful gardens, children laugh and play among the flowers, while tall, snowy mountains stand around me like gentle giants. It feels like a magical place, because it is. I am Salzburg, a city in Austria that sings with history. I love to share my stories with everyone who visits, and I have so many wonderful tales to tell you about brave leaders, special treasures, and beautiful songs that filled my streets with joy and wonder.
My name has a special secret. Salzburg means 'Salt Fortress.' A very, very long time ago, around the year 696, a wise man named Saint Rupert came here and helped me grow from a small town into a busy city. Soon after, people discovered a treasure hidden deep inside my mountains. It wasn’t gold or jewels. it was salt. Back then, salt was called 'white gold' because it was so important for keeping food fresh. To protect this precious salt, the people started building a huge castle way up high on the hill in the year 1077. It is called Hohensalzburg Fortress, and it still watches over me today. Because of my salt, I became a very important and wealthy city. Leaders called Prince-Archbishops used that wealth to build beautiful palaces with grand fountains and tall churches with ringing bells that still make my streets sparkle and sing.
My salt made me famous, but an even greater treasure was just about to arrive. music. On a chilly day, January 27th, 1756, a little boy was born in a yellow house right here on one of my streets. His name was Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and he was a musical superstar. Even when he was very small, he could play the piano so beautifully it sounded like magic, and he could write amazing songs that made people want to dance. His happy, bouncy music filled my grand halls and floated through my narrow streets. His songs made people from all over the world smile, and they still do today. I was so proud to be the home of such a wonderful composer, and his music became my heartbeat.

My song did not end when Mozart's did. Many years later, in 1964, my green hills and lovely gardens became the star of a famous movie called 'The Sound of Music'. It told the story of the singing von Trapp family, who filled my air with even more beautiful melodies. Today, I am proud to be a UNESCO World Heritage site, which means I am a special treasure for the whole world to enjoy. My fortress still stands guard, my gardens still bloom, and my streets are always filled with music. I love sharing my songs and stories with everyone who visits. Come and listen to my melody.
