Just want Santo Domingo?
Hello from the Sunshine!
Can you feel the warm sunshine on your face. It feels like a cozy blanket. Listen. The pretty blue sea is whispering secrets to the shore. I have so many colorful houses, painted like a rainbow with bright flowers growing all around. If you walk with me, your feet will feel the bumpy old stones on my streets. They have been here for a very long time. I have so many stories to tell you. I am Santo Domingo, a city full of sunshine and happy stories.
My Story Begins
A long, long time ago, my story began on a sunny day. On August 5th, 1498, an explorer named Bartholomew Columbus sailed across the big blue ocean. When he saw me, he thought this was the perfect spot to build a new home. So, he and his friends got to work. They started building stone by stone, like stacking giant blocks. They built the very first stone houses and the first big church in all the Americas. They even laid down the first paved street so people could walk easily. I was strong and special, a brand new beginning for so many people.
Come Dance with Me!
Today, I am still filled with sunshine and fun. Do you hear that happy music playing. That is called merengue, and it makes everyone want to tap their feet and dance. I love watching families laugh and play together in my parks. And oh, the yummy smells. Sweet foods are always cooking, making everyone feel hungry and happy. I am an old city with many stories to share, and I love when visitors come to see me. I want to share my history, my music, and all my smiles with you.
