The story

The Giggling River of Paris

I swish and swirl and giggle all day long. Little boats tickle my tummy as they float by. I sparkle in the sunshine and shimmer under the moon. I love to watch the happy people walking beside me, holding hands and smiling. I am a river. My name is the Seine, and I flow right through the middle of a beautiful, busy city called Paris. It is my home, and I love it here very much.

I have been here for a very, very long time. Before there were big buildings, my first friends came to live with me. They were called the Parisii people. They built their homes right next to me because I gave them cool water to drink and yummy fish to eat. As more and more people came, they built a city around me. They made strong stone bridges that reach from one side of me to the other, like a big hug. It was so fun to watch the city grow up all around me.

Now, I have so many amazing things to look at every day. At night, a very tall tower made of iron wears a dress of twinkling lights, and the lights dance on my water like little stars. That is the Eiffel Tower. A long time ago, in the year 1163, people started building a beautiful church called Notre Dame on a little island in my middle. It has big, colorful windows. I love watching the happy boats float by, full of friends waving hello to me and my city.

My job is the best job in the world. I get to connect the city, helping boats travel from one place to another. I get to be a mirror for all the pretty lights and tall buildings. I love watching children laugh and play near my banks. I will keep flowing and giggling forever, sharing my happy story with everyone who comes to visit my wonderful home, Paris.
