Just want Tanzania?
I have a big, snowy mountain that tickles the clouds, called Kilimanjaro. My grassy plains are a playground for stripey zebras, tall giraffes, and lions that roar a big hello. I am a sunny, warm home to so many amazing animals. Can you guess who I am? I am the country of Tanzania.
I have a very old secret hidden in my ground. A long, long time ago, a family walked across my soft, dusty earth. A friendly volcano puffed ash that covered their path, and their footprints turned to stone, like a picture that lasts forever. In 1978, a smart lady named Mary Leakey found these footprints. They show us how people walked, just like you, a very, very long time ago. I also have a beautiful island called Zanzibar, where the air smells sweet like cinnamon and cloves.
I wasn't always one big piece of land. I used to be two friends: Tanganyika on the mainland and the island of Zanzibar. On April 26th, 1964, they decided to join together and become one happy family. That’s when I got my name, Tanzania. Today, I love it when friends from all over the world visit me. They come to see my amazing animals, climb my tall mountain, and learn my secrets. I am a place full of adventure and friendship for everyone.
