I Am Happiness

Hi there! My name is Happiness. I am that warm, sunny feeling you get inside when you laugh so hard your stomach hurts, or when you get a big hug from someone you love. I’m not something you can hold in your hands, but you can definitely feel me in your heart and see me in a bright smile. I am the feeling of joy and contentment, and I truly love visiting everyone I can.

I show up in all sorts of places, in big moments and small ones. You might feel me when you finally learn to ride your bike without any training wheels, soaring down the sidewalk on the 4th of July with the wind in your hair. I’m also there in the quiet moments, like when you’re curled up reading a good book on a rainy afternoon or when your pet decides to snuggle right up next to you. Sometimes I appear when a friend shares their favorite snack with you at lunch, or when you finish a drawing that you’re really proud of. I am the special glow you feel when you do something kind for someone else without even being asked.

It's important to know that sometimes, other feelings like Sadness or Anger need to have their turn, and that’s perfectly okay. Nobody feels happy all the time. You might feel disappointed if your soccer team loses a big game or frustrated when you just can't figure out a tricky math problem. But those feelings don't make me go away forever. In fact, working through a tough time and coming out on the other side often makes my return feel even brighter and stronger. Making up with a friend after an argument can bring a special kind of me, one mixed with relief.

One of the very best things about me is that I'm contagious. When you share your happiness with others, it actually grows and spreads. A simple smile can be passed from person to person, lighting up a whole room. When you tell a funny joke and make your friends laugh, you are sharing me with all of them. Being kind, helping out at home, and celebrating when your friends succeed are all wonderful ways to help me spread all over the world.

I am a powerful feeling that helps you connect with others, feel good about yourself, and bounce back from challenges. I continue to help people today by reminding them to look for the good in their lives, no matter how small it may seem. Remember to notice the little moments of joy each day, because that’s where I love to hang out the most. I'm always nearby, waiting for a reason to shine.
