The story

Staying Hydrated: The Fuel My Body Needs

Staying hydrated means I give my body the water it needs to work its best. I think of a plant in the sun; without water, it wilts, but with water, it stands tall and strong. My body is the same way because it is made of mostly water, and I need to refill it throughout the day to feel my best.

Water has many important jobs inside me. It helps my brain focus during a math test and keeps my body from getting too hot when I'm running at recess, acting like my built-in cooling system. It also acts like a delivery truck, carrying energy from my food to my muscles and brain so I can think, play, and grow.

How do I know I need water? The clearest sign is feeling thirsty, but there are other clues. If my pee is dark yellow instead of light, or if I feel tired and grumpy for no reason, my body might be asking for a drink. It's always a good idea for me to drink water regularly so I don't have to wait for these signals.

Here is a simple plan I follow to make sure I get enough water. First, I start my morning with a full glass of water to wake up my body. Next, I bring a reusable water bottle to school and take sips during class and at lunch. When I play sports or run outside, I drink some water before, during, and after to replace what I lose through sweat. Finally, I have a glass of water with every meal and snack to make it a daily habit.

Making sure I am hydrated has a real impact on my daily life. It gives me the energy to keep up with my friends on the playground and helps me concentrate on learning new things in school. This simple habit keeps my body healthy and strong from the inside out, helping me feel great every single day.
