Just want American Bison?
Hello from the prairie! My name is an American Bison, and I am a very big animal. I have a big, fluffy brown coat that keeps me warm when it is chilly outside. On my head, I have two little horns. I live in big, grassy fields with all of my family. We call our family a herd, and we love to stay together.
My day is very busy and very fun. My favorite food is yummy green grass, and I get to munch on it all day long. After I eat, I love to roll around in the dirt. It might sound silly, but this is how I give myself a dust bath! The dirt feels so good on my coat and keeps me clean. When I am not eating or taking a bath, I love to run and play. I race with the other young bison in my herd across the big fields. We run and jump and have so much fun together.
I have a very special job on the prairie. When I walk, I stomp my strong hooves on the ground. My super stomp helps press seeds into the dirt so new grass and flowers can grow. I am big and strong, and I am very proud to be the National Mammal of the United States, which happened in the year 2016. I love helping make the prairie a beautiful home for everyone to enjoy.
