Just want Aphid?
Hi there. My name is Aphid, and I'm a tiny green bug living on a big, yummy rose bush. The moment I was born, I was already on my first meal. My whole world is this one tasty leaf. I have so many sisters, you couldn’t even count them all. We all look just alike. A funny thing about my family is that my mom didn't need a dad to have us. It's a special trick we aphids have, so our family can grow really big, really fast. We spend all day together, munching and growing on our leafy home.
Do you wonder how I eat? I don't have a mouth like you do. Instead, I have a special tool called a proboscis. It works just like a tiny drinking straw. It's very sharp at the tip, so I can poke it right into a plant's stem or a juicy leaf. Once my straw is in, I can sip up the plant's sweet juice, which is called sap. The sap is full of sugar and gives me all the energy I need to crawl around and make even more sisters. It’s like having a sweet energy drink available all day long.
I have a sweet secret I want to share with you. After I drink all that sugary sap, my body makes a special liquid called honeydew. It’s like a tiny drop of syrup that comes out of my back end. And guess who loves it? Ants. The ants are my best friends and my bodyguards. They come and visit me, and when they want a treat, they gently tickle my back with their antennae. That tells me they're hungry, so I give them a little drop of my honeydew. In return for the sweet snack, the ants protect me and my sisters from scary bugs who might want to eat us.

Being so small, you might wonder what my job is in the big garden. Some gardeners don't like me very much because I drink the juice from their plants. But I have a very important role. I am food for other animals. The beautiful, spotty ladybugs love to eat me for lunch. By being a snack for them, I help them grow strong. Everyone in the garden has a special part to play, from the busy ants to the hungry ladybugs. My job is to eat, grow, and help feed others, keeping the whole garden world balanced and alive.
