The Smiling Salamander
Hi there. My name is Axolotl. I am a very special kind of salamander. I live in a beautiful lake in Mexico where the water is nice and cool. It is my favorite home. Many people say that I always look like I am smiling. It makes me happy to hear that. I have soft, feathery gills that are on the sides of my head. They look just like a fluffy mane. These special gills are very important. They help me breathe underwater in my cozy home, so I can swim all day.
I also have some amazing superpowers. They are really neat. If I ever get a little hurt on my leg or my tail, something magical happens. Guess what it is. I can grow a brand new one. It just grows right back. I have another secret, too. My secret is that I get to stay young forever. Other salamanders grow up and change, but not me. I get to be a water-baby for my whole life. This is so much fun because it means I always get to swim and play in my lake.
My lake is my whole world. I love wiggling and swimming through the water all day long. When I get hungry, I hunt for yummy snacks like tiny worms. I am a very special part of my home. I help to keep the water healthy and clean for all my friends. It is so important for all of us to have a clean, happy place to live. I am so glad I get to be the smiling guardian of my lake.
