A Caribou's Snowy Story

Hi there. My name is Caribou, but some people call me Reindeer. I live in the chilly, snowy north where I wear a super warm, fluffy coat all year round. The best part about being me is my amazing antlers. Both the boy and girl caribou grow them, which makes us very special in the deer family. They grow big and strong on my head and help me look grand.

I love walking through the soft, white snow. When I get hungry, I use my wide hooves like little shovels to dig, dig, dig. I am looking for my favorite snack, a yummy plant called lichen. It tastes so good. I do not travel alone. I am always with my family and friends in a big group called a herd. We stick together to stay safe and warm, and it is more fun to have friends to walk with.

My herd and I are great travelers. We walk for very long ways to find the best food and safe places to rest. As we walk and eat, we help our home by spreading seeds from the plants. This helps new trees and flowers grow. We are important helpers in our big, snowy world, and I am proud to be a caribou.
