The story

The Penguin Who Swims

Hello there. My name is Magellanic Penguin. It is so nice to meet you. A long, long time ago, in the year 1520, explorers first saw my family. Look at me. I have a black back and a white tummy. It looks like I am wearing a fancy tuxedo. Isn't that silly? I do not live in the cold snow. I live in a warm, sunny place called South America. My home is on the sandy and rocky coasts. I love to feel the warm sun and listen to the ocean waves.

I am a bird, and I have wings. But I have a secret. I do not use my wings to fly in the sky. I use my wings to swim in the big, blue ocean. My wings are like little flippers. They help me fly through the water. I can swim so fast. I zip and I zoom under the waves. It is so much fun. I swim fast to catch yummy fish for my dinner. Splish, splash, I love swimming all day long.

Do you want to know how I talk to my penguin friends? I make a very funny sound. I make a loud bray, just like a donkey. Hee-haw. That is my sound. When I bray, my family can find me in our big, busy home. It is important for us to stay together. My job is very special. By swimming in the ocean and eating fish, I help keep the water healthy and balanced for everyone.
