The story

A Koala's Treetop Tale

Hello, I am a koala. I am a special animal called a marsupial. I have soft, gray fur and big, fluffy ears that are fun to wiggle. Being a marsupial means my mommy has a warm pouch on her tummy. When I have my own baby, called a joey, that pouch is the perfect first home for them to stay safe and cozy. It is the best spot for a little joey to snuggle up close to its mommy.

My home is high up in the eucalyptus trees in a place called Australia. I love living in the treetops. My favorite food in the whole world is tasty eucalyptus leaves. I am a very picky eater, so I only like to eat a few kinds of these leaves. They are yummy, but they do not give me a lot of energy. Because of that, I love to sleep. I cuddle up on a branch and can sleep for up to 20 hours every day. Napping is my favorite thing to do.

I have a very important job in the forest. When I munch on all the leaves, I help keep the eucalyptus trees healthy and strong. This makes the forest a happy and healthy home for all the other animals who live here, too. It makes me happy to help my home. Every animal is special, and we all have an important part to play in our big, beautiful world.
