The story

The Smiling Panda of the Sea

Hi there! My name is Vaquita. I'm a tiny porpoise, one of the smallest in the whole ocean! I have dark circles around my eyes and mouth, which make me look like I'm always smiling. Some people even call me the 'panda of the sea' because of my special markings. It is so nice to meet you.

I live in the warm, sparkly waters of a special place called the Gulf of California in Mexico. It's the only place in the world you can find me! I love to swim and hunt for yummy snacks like little fish and squid. To find them, I use a superpower called echolocation. I make little clicking sounds that bounce off things, telling me where my food is hiding. It’s like playing hide-and-seek with sound!

There are very few of us vaquitas left, which makes each one of us extra special. We are an important part of our ocean home, and we help keep it healthy and balanced. By protecting my home, you help me and all my ocean friends keep swimming and playing for years to come. Every little porpoise matters!
