Just want Adam Smith?
Hello! My name is Adam Smith. I was born in a little town in Scotland a long, long time ago, in the year 1723. When I was a boy, I loved to read books. I spent many hours with my books, thinking about the big world all around me.
When I grew up, I became a teacher. I loved talking about big ideas with my students. I thought a lot about why people share and trade things. It is like when you trade your apple for a friend's banana. I learned that when people are free to make things and sell things, it helps everybody. A baker can sell his bread to buy new shoes. A shoemaker can sell her shoes to buy yummy bread. This way, everyone can get what they need.
I decided to write all of my big ideas down in a special book. In the year 1776, I finished my most famous book. It was called 'The Wealth of Nations.' My book explained that when everyone works hard and trades fairly, it helps make the whole country a better place for people to live.
I lived to be 67 years old. Today, people all over the world still read my book to learn about my ideas. My thoughts helped people understand more about jobs, stores, and how money works to help everyone.
