Aesop

Hello! My name is Aesop. I lived a very, very long time ago, around the year 600 BC, in a sunny place called ancient Greece. My favorite thing in the whole world was telling stories. I did not write my stories in books with paper and pens. I told them out loud to anyone who wanted to listen! I loved making people smile and think with my special tales.

My stories were not about kings or queens. They were about animals that could talk, just like you and me! I told stories about a slow little tortoise who decided to race a speedy bunny. I also had a story about a very kind mouse who helped a big, strong lion. In another story, a clever fox wanted to eat some yummy grapes that were growing high on a vine. All of my animal friends had big adventures. Through their adventures, they learned important things, and I hoped the people listening learned them, too.

Every story I told had a little secret lesson inside. My story about the tortoise and the hare teaches us that 'slow and steady wins the race.' This means it is important to keep trying and never give up. My other stories teach us to be kind to everyone, to always tell the truth, and to be clever when you have a problem. I lived a long, long time ago, but I am so happy that my animal fables are still told to children all over the world today. I hope my stories make you happy and help you be kind and smart!
