Just want Anaximenes of Miletus?
Hello there. My name is Anaximenes. I lived a very, very long time ago in a sunny city by the sea called Miletus. I was a philosopher, which is a big word for someone who loves to think about big questions. I would look up at the bright blue sky, feel the wind on my face, and wonder, 'What is everything in the world made of?'.
I had an idea that felt as big as the sky. I thought everything in the whole world was made from air. Take a big breath. That air you just breathed? I believed it was a super shape-shifter. I imagined that if you let air stretch out and get super thin, it would turn into bright, warm fire. But if you squeezed the air together, it would become a gust of wind. Squeeze it even more, and it would turn into a fluffy cloud, then into drops of water, and if you squeezed it super-duper tight, it would become hard rocks and dirt. From a little puff of air to a big, heavy stone.
I lived a long and thoughtful life many years ago. People today know that things aren't just made of air, but they remember me because I was one of the first people to try and explain our whole, amazing world with one simple idea. My story reminds everyone to stay curious, look closely at the world, and never stop asking wonderful questions.
