Just want Camillo di Cavour?
Hello! My name is Camillo Benso, but most people know me as the Count of Cavour. I was born a long time ago, on August 10th, 1810, in a beautiful city called Turin. When I was a boy, the place we now call Italy wasn't one big country. It was like a puzzle made of many different kingdoms and states. I had a big dream: I wanted to help put all those puzzle pieces together to make one strong, united country called Italy.
To make my dream happen, I knew I had to work very hard. I studied and learned all about how to run a country. In the year 1852, I was given a very important job. I became the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Sardinia-Piedmont, which was one of the strongest Italian states. My job was to make our kingdom even stronger. I helped build new things like railroads to connect our cities and helped our businesses grow. I also knew we couldn't unite Italy all by ourselves. I traveled and made friends with leaders of other big countries, like France, because friends help each other achieve their goals.
With our kingdom strong and our new friends ready to help, it was time to start putting the puzzle together! I worked with other Italian heroes, like a brave general named Giuseppe Garibaldi. Together, we convinced the other Italian states to join us. It was so exciting! Finally, in the year 1861, we did it! We announced the new Kingdom of Italy. My dream had come true! I was so proud to become the very first Prime Minister of the new, united Italy.
I didn't get to be the prime minister of our new country for very long. I lived to be 50 years old, and my work was finished just a few months before I passed away later in 1861. But I am so happy that my big dream came true. Today, people remember me as one of the fathers of Italy, someone who helped build a nation. The united country of Italy that I dreamed of as a boy is still here today.
