Caravaggio: The Painter of Light and Shadow

Hello! My name is Michelangelo, but everyone calls me Caravaggio. I was named after the town where I grew up. I was a painter. I loved to paint more than anything in the world. With my paint and my brushes, I could tell wonderful stories without using any words at all.

I had a very special way of painting. I liked to paint people so they looked just like the people you see every day. It was okay if their clothes were a little messy, because that made them look real. My favorite trick was to use bright light and dark shadows. I would make some parts of my picture very bright, like a light was shining right on them. Then, I would make other parts very dark. This made my paintings look exciting, like a real story was happening right in front of you.

I created many paintings during my life. After my time on Earth ended, my art stayed here for everyone to see. My paintings did not go away. Today, you can see my pictures in big, quiet places called museums. The stories that I painted with my brushes, using bright light and dark shadows, live on for you and everyone to enjoy forever.
