Just want Chanakya?
Hello! My name is Chanakya, though some people know me by my other names, Kautilya and Vishnu Gupta. I was born a very long time ago, around the year 375 BCE. I grew up with a great love for learning and books. I became a teacher, or an 'acharya,' at the famous university in Takshashila, where I taught students about many subjects. I especially enjoyed teaching them how to be wise leaders and how to run a kingdom fairly. I believed that knowledge was the most powerful tool a person could have, and I wanted to share it with as many young minds as I could.
In my time, much of India was ruled by the Nanda dynasty. Their king, Dhana Nanda, was very powerful, but he was also arrogant and unkind to his people. One day, I traveled to his court in the capital city of Pataliputra. While I was there, he insulted me in front of everyone, making me feel small and disrespected. I was very angry, but I turned that anger into a promise. Right then and there, I vowed that I would not rest until I had removed him from power. I decided it was my life's great mission to find a truly worthy ruler for the kingdom of Magadha, someone who would lead with kindness and wisdom.
I began to travel, searching for a person with the heart and mind of a true leader. It was a long journey, but I finally found him. He was a clever and brave young man named Chandragupta Maurya. I saw a special spark in him, a sign that he could become a great king. I decided to become his mentor. I taught him everything I knew about military strategy, politics, and how to inspire people to follow him. We worked together, day after day, and soon we began to gather an army and make a careful plan to challenge the powerful Nanda king.
Chanakya: The Teacher Who Built an Empire

I began to travel, searching for a person with the heart and mind of a true leader. It was a long journey, but I finally found him. He was a clever and brave young man named Chandragupta Maurya. I saw a special spark in him, a sign that he could become a great king. I decided to become his mentor. I taught him everything I knew about military strategy, politics, and how to inspire people to follow him. We worked together, day after day, and soon we began to gather an army and make a careful plan to challenge the powerful Nanda king.
Our fight was not easy, but with careful planning and Chandragupta's amazing courage, we were successful. Around the year 322 BCE, our army defeated Dhana Nanda's forces. Chandragupta became the first emperor of the new Mauryan Empire. This empire would grow to be one of the largest and most powerful in the entire history of India. I did not leave his side after our victory. Instead, I stayed on as his chief advisor, helping him build a strong and prosperous kingdom for all his people, where everyone could feel safe and treated fairly.
I wanted to make sure that all the lessons I had learned about leadership and government would not be forgotten after I was gone. So, I wrote down all of my ideas in a book called the Arthashastra. This book was a guide for rulers, filled with advice on everything a king would need to know. It included tips on how to manage the kingdom's money, how to build good roads, and how to protect the people from enemies. My goal was to help leaders create a government that was fair, stable, and worked for everyone in the kingdom.
I continued to serve the empire for many years, advising not only Chandragupta but also his son, Bindusara, when he became king. I lived a very long and full life, passing away around the year 283 BCE. I am remembered for helping to create a great empire and for my ideas about leadership and politics, which I shared with the world. Even today, thousands of years later, people all over the world still study my book, the Arthashastra, to learn about how to be wise and effective leaders.

About
An ancient Indian teacher, philosopher, and royal advisor who was important in the creation of the Mauryan Empire and is traditionally thought to have written the political book called the Arthashastra. However, some experts today are not sure if he really wrote it. The book names its author as Kauṭilya, and one part calls him Vishnugupta. Some people think Chanakya, Kauṭilya, and Vishnugupta might be the same person, while others believe they are different people. The true authorship of the book is still being discussed.
