Just want Charles I of Spain?
Hello! My name is Charles, and I would like to tell you my story. I was born a very long time ago, on February 24th, 1500, in a city called Ghent. My family was very special because it was full of kings and queens from different lands. Because of this, my childhood was spent preparing for a big future. I learned to speak many different languages so that one day, I could be a good leader for people in many places. It was a lot of work, but I knew it was important.
When I was still a teenager, a very important thing happened. In the year 1516, I became King Charles I of Spain. That was a very big job for someone so young! The kingdom of Spain was huge, with lands all over the world, even across the wide ocean. Then, just a few years later in 1519, I was also chosen to be the Holy Roman Emperor. This meant I was in charge of even more places in Europe. I was then known as Emperor Charles V, and I had to take care of people in many different kingdoms all at once.
Many exciting things happened while I was a ruler. One of the most amazing adventures was thanks to a brave explorer named Ferdinand Magellan. He worked for me and had a bold idea to sail all the way around the world, something no one had ever done before. His ships sailed across huge oceans and saw incredible sights. His journey was a great success, and his ships were the very first to travel all the way around our planet! This amazing trip helped everyone understand just how big the world really is.
After many years of ruling, I decided it was time to rest. In the year 1556, I made a big decision. I gave my kingdoms to my son and my brother to rule after me. I then moved to a quiet monastery in Spain. I lived to be 58 years old. Today, people remember me as the ruler of a giant empire. My lands were so spread out across the globe that it was said the sun never set on my empire, because it was always daytime somewhere in one of my kingdoms.
