The story

Charles Lindbergh: The Pilot Who Flew Across the Ocean

Hello! My name is Charles Lindbergh. When I was a little boy, I loved watching birds soar through the sky. I dreamed that one day, I could fly too! I also loved machines and figuring out how engines worked on our farm. I thought, what if I could combine my love for machines with my dream of flying? That's when I decided I wanted to be a pilot.

I got a very special airplane built just for me. I named her the Spirit of St. Louis. She was small, with big wings to help her fly a long, long way. My big idea was to be the very first person to fly all by myself across the giant Atlantic Ocean, from New York all the way to Paris! In 1927, I took off. For a day and a half, it was just me and my plane, flying over lots and lots of water. I saw nothing but clouds and waves below. I was very tired, but I knew I could do it!

When I finally landed in Paris, so many people were there to cheer! They were so excited. My big flight showed everyone that airplanes could be used to travel to faraway places and bring the world closer together. It made people believe that anything was possible if you were brave and worked hard. I lived to be 72 years old, and today, people remember me as the pilot who flew alone across the ocean and helped change the world of flying forever.
