The story

Cleisthenes

Hello! My name is Cleisthenes. I lived a very, very long time ago in a sunny, beautiful city called Athens. I loved watching people talk and build amazing things in my city. But I noticed that not everyone got to share their ideas, and I thought that wasn't very fair.

In Athens, some families had all the power, and others had none. It was like only a few kids got to decide what game everyone played at recess. I had a big idea! What if we made new teams? Instead of being on a team with just your family, you would be on a team with your neighbors. This way, everyone from all over our city could work together. I helped create ten new tribes, or teams, for everyone. Now, everyone had a voice and could help make choices for our city.

My idea was called democracy. It means that the people have the power to choose. I was so happy to see the people of Athens learning to work together and listen to each other. I lived a long and full life. People remember me today because I believed that everyone's voice is important. Sharing ideas and working as a team is a wonderful way to make the world a better, fairer place for all.
