Just want Edgar Degas?
Hello! My name is Edgar Degas, and I was an artist. I lived in a beautiful city called Paris, in France. Ever since I was a little boy, I loved to draw. I would fill up my notebooks with sketches of everything I saw around me.
My favorite things to paint were dancers! I loved visiting the ballet and watching the ballerinas practice. I would draw their fluffy dresses, called tutus, and the pretty ribbons on their dancing shoes. I didn't always paint them on stage. I liked to show them stretching, tying their shoes, and getting ready for the big show. It was like a secret peek behind the curtain! I also loved to draw fast, strong horses at the racetrack. It was so exciting to see them gallop by.
I wanted my pictures to feel like you were right there, catching a quick moment before it disappeared. I painted for many, many years, creating art that showed the world in a new way. I lived to be 83 years old. Today, my paintings of dancers and horses are in big museums all over the world. When people see them, they can still feel the magic of the dance and the excitement of the race that I saw so long ago.
