Elizabeth Cady Stanton
Hello! My name is Elizabeth Cady Stanton. When I was a little girl, I loved to learn and play just like my brothers. But I noticed something funny. People thought boys could do anything, but they had lots of rules for girls. I thought, 'That's not fair!' I believed that everyone, no matter if they were a boy or a girl, should have the same chance to be happy and follow their dreams. This big idea stayed with me as I grew up.
When I was all grown up, I wanted to help change the rules. I had a wonderful friend named Susan B. Anthony, and she thought the same way I did! Together, we were a great team. We decided to have a big meeting to talk about fairness for women. At the meeting, I shared a special paper I wrote. It said that women should have the same rights as men, like being able to go to college, have important jobs, and even help choose our leaders by voting. Lots of people came to listen and agreed with our ideas!
My friend Susan and I worked for many, many years to share our message of fairness. It wasn't always easy, but we never gave up. I lived to be 86 years old, and I spent my life writing and talking about why everyone deserves to be treated equally. Because of the work I started, the world began to change. Today, women can vote and be leaders, and it all started with a simple idea: that everyone should be treated with kindness and respect.
