Just want Francisco de Miranda?
Hello! My name is Francisco de Miranda. I was born a very long time ago, on March 28th, 1750. My home was a beautiful city called Caracas, which is now in a country called Venezuela. When I was a little boy, I did not play with toys as much as I loved to read books. I would sit for hours, turning the pages and reading about faraway places and big adventures. I dreamed that one day, I would have exciting adventures of my very own. Those books made my world feel huge and full of amazing things, and I could not wait to grow up and explore it all.
When I grew up, I became a soldier, and my dreams of adventure came true. My work took me to so many places across the big, wide ocean. I sailed to Spain and even traveled to the continent of Africa. Then, I journeyed to a place that was becoming a new country called the United States. It was a very exciting time. In the year 1781, I helped the people there in their fight for freedom. I watched them build a brand-new country where they could make their own rules and be in charge of their own lives. Seeing their happiness and bravery gave me a wonderful and very powerful idea for my own home.
My big idea grew into a big dream. I wanted my home in South America to be free, just like the United States. I wanted my people to choose their own leaders and live happily. To show everyone what this new, free country could look like, I designed a brand-new flag in 1806. It was full of bright, happy colors. The top stripe was yellow for the riches of our land. The middle stripe was blue for the great sea that separated us from the old rulers. The bottom stripe was red for the courage of our people. Then, a very special day arrived. On July 5th, 1811, I proudly picked up a pen and signed the paper that declared Venezuela was a free country.

Winning freedom was a very difficult fight, much harder than I ever imagined. I was captured by Spanish soldiers who did not want my country to be free. I had to spend my last years in a prison, far away from my home. I lived to be 66 years old. Even though I didn't get to see my dream fully come true, the fight for freedom did not stop. Today, people remember me as the 'Precursor,' which means I was one of the very first people to work for South America's independence. And that colorful flag I designed is still waved proudly by the people of Venezuela, a bright reminder of the dream for freedom.
