The story

Frank Lloyd Wright: The Nature Builder

Hello! My name is Frank Lloyd Wright. When I was a little boy, my favorite toys were my building blocks. I would stack them up high to make towers. I would also lay them flat to make fun shapes. I loved being outside in nature. I liked watching the tall trees grow and the rivers flow all around.

As I grew up, I became a special kind of artist called an architect. An architect is someone who designs buildings. I had a very big idea. I thought buildings should look like they belong in nature, almost like they grew right out of the ground. I loved to use wood and stone to make my houses feel cozy and strong. I once designed a house called Fallingwater that was built right over a waterfall. Can you imagine hearing the water splash all day? I also designed a famous museum in New York City. It is called the Guggenheim Museum, and it looks like a big, white, swirly seashell.

I designed many, many beautiful buildings during my life. I lived to be 91 years old. Today, people still love to visit the homes and museums I created. They can see how wonderful it is when buildings and nature are friends. My ideas helped other architects think in new and exciting ways about the amazing things they could build, too.
