Just want Franz Liszt?
Hello! My name is Franz Liszt, and I was a musician who loved the piano more than anything. I was born on a chilly day, October 22nd, 1811, in a small town called Raiding in Hungary. My father, Adam, also loved music, and he was my very first piano teacher. Even when I was very little, my fingers danced across the black and white keys, and I knew music was going to be my whole life.
When I was just a boy, my family moved to Vienna, a big city full of music. I worked very hard and gave my first big concert for everyone to see in 1822. I even got to meet the famous composer Ludwig van Beethoven! People were amazed at how fast my fingers could fly across the piano. Soon, I was traveling to other big cities like Paris, and people started calling me a 'virtuoso,' which is a fancy word for someone who is really, really good at playing an instrument.
For many years, starting in the 1830s, I traveled all over Europe in a carriage, playing concerts for kings, queens, and crowds of cheering fans. It was so exciting! I didn't just play other people's music; I started writing my own. I loved telling stories with music, so I invented something called a 'symphonic poem,' which is like a story told by an entire orchestra. I also wrote pieces inspired by my home, Hungary, called the 'Hungarian Rhapsodies,' which are full of energy and dancing rhythms.
After many years of adventures, I spent more time teaching young musicians and sharing everything I knew. I lived to be 74 years old, and my life was filled with beautiful sounds. Today, people all around the world still play the music I wrote, and my pieces for the piano are some of the most famous ever created. I hope my music makes you feel excited, tell a story, and want to dance!
