Just want Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi?
Hello! My name is Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi. I am an artist. I grew up in a country called France. When I was a little boy, I loved to make things with my hands. I would build and create all day long. I grew up and made big, big sculptures for everyone to see. Making art made me so happy.
One day, I had a very big idea. I wanted to make a giant statue. It would be a special present from my home in France to our friends in America. My statue would be a huge lady holding a bright torch high in the sky. We decided to call her Lady Liberty. She was so big, we couldn't make her in one piece. We had to build her in many, many pieces. It was like making a giant puzzle. When the pieces were all ready, we put them on a big ship. The ship sailed across the big, big ocean all the way to America.
When all the puzzle pieces arrived in America, workers put my giant statue together. They built her on an island in a place called New York City. Today, Lady Liberty stands so tall. She welcomes people and reminds them that France and America are friends. I lived to be 70 years old, and I was so happy that I could create art that makes people smile and think about freedom. My statue still holds her torch high for the whole world to see.
