Hello! My name is Friedrich Schiller, and I was a poet and a playwright who loved to tell stories about freedom and courage. I was born on a chilly day, November 10th, 1759, in a small German town called Marbach. As a boy, I was fascinated by stories and dreamed of writing my own plays. But my family didn't have much money, and a powerful ruler called a Duke decided my future for me. In 1773, when I was a teenager, he sent me to a very strict military school. He wanted me to become a doctor for the army, not a writer. I studied hard, but in my heart, I kept my dream of writing alive.
While I was at the military school, I secretly wrote my very first play. It was called 'The Robbers,' and it was about a group of young men who fought against unfair rules. I was so excited when it was performed for the first time in a theater in the city of Mannheim in 1782. It was a huge success! But when the Duke found out I had snuck away from my job as an army doctor to see it, he was furious. He put me in jail for two weeks and then ordered me to stop writing forever. I knew I couldn't obey. I had to choose between my safety and my freedom to write. So, later that year, I made a brave decision: I escaped.
Running away was scary, and for a few years, I was poor and had to hide. But I never stopped writing. I wrote more plays, and I also wrote poems. In 1785, I wrote one of my most famous poems, 'Ode to Joy.' It was a happy poem about how all people in the world could be friends and live together in peace. My life started to get better. I became a professor of history at a university in 1789, where I got to share my love of the past with students. I also met a wonderful woman named Charlotte von Lengefeld, and we got married in 1790.

One of the best things that happened to me was becoming friends with another famous German writer, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. We met in 1794, and we inspired each other to write our best work. We lived in a city called Weimar, which was full of artists and thinkers. With Goethe's encouragement, I wrote many of the plays I am remembered for today. I wrote about brave historical figures like Mary, Queen of Scots, and Joan of Arc. In 1804, I wrote one of my last and most famous plays, 'William Tell,' about a hero who stands up to a cruel ruler to protect his family and his people. I wanted my stories to show that one person's courage can make a big difference.
I had been sick for many years, and my work took a lot of my energy. I lived to be 45 years old and passed away in 1805. Even though my life was short, my words have lived on. My plays are still performed in theaters all over the world, and people still read my poems about freedom, friendship, and bravery. You might even have heard my words without knowing it! A famous composer named Ludwig van Beethoven loved my poem 'Ode to Joy' so much that he set it to music in his amazing Ninth Symphony. My stories continue to inspire people to be courageous and to believe in a better world.
