Hello, my name is Georgia, and I am an artist. An artist is someone who loves to make pictures. I grew up on a big farm in a place called Wisconsin a long, long time ago, around the year 1887. On the farm, I loved looking at the giant blue sky above me. I also loved looking at the tiny things on the ground, like pretty flowers and green leaves. Ever since I was a little girl, I knew I wanted to be an artist and paint all the beautiful things I saw.
I saw the world a little differently than other people. When I looked at a field full of flowers, I didn't want to paint all of them. I wanted to pick just one flower and paint it up close. I made my flower paintings super big so everyone could see how special and beautiful each one was. I wanted you to feel like you could almost smell it. In the year 1929, I visited a special place called New Mexico. It was a desert with so many new things to see. I loved it there. I painted the big, colorful hills that looked like a rainbow. I also found smooth, white animal bones in the sand and painted them, too. They looked like sculptures against the bright blue sky.
I spent my whole life painting the things that I loved. It made me so happy to share how I saw the world. I lived to be 98 years old, and today, my paintings are in big buildings called museums all over the world for everyone to see. I hope my art helps you to slow down and see the wonderful, beautiful things all around you, from a tiny seashell to a giant skyscraper.
