Just want Giuseppe Piazzi?
Hello. My name is Giuseppe Piazzi. Ever since I was a little boy, I have loved looking up at the night sky. The stars twinkled like tiny diamonds, and I always wanted to see them up close. When I grew up, I got a giant telescope. It helped me see all the beautiful stars and planets that were far, far away.
Every night, I would peek through my telescope. I knew where all the bright stars were supposed to be. But one night, on January 1st, 1801, I saw something new. It was a tiny speck of light that was not on any of my maps. I watched it the next night, and the night after that. It was moving. Stars don't move like that, so I knew I had found something very special.
I was so excited. I named my discovery Ceres. It was the very first object like it ever found floating in the space between the big planets Mars and Jupiter. At first, we were not sure what it was. But my discovery helped other star-gazers find many more just like it. Today, we call Ceres a dwarf planet. It is the biggest object in a place called the asteroid belt.
I lived to be 80 years old, and I spent my life happily looking at the sky. People remember me because my discovery of Ceres helped us learn so much more about our amazing solar system and all the wonderful things that are in it.
