The story

Henry David Thoreau

Hello there. My name is Henry David Thoreau. A long, long time ago, in the year 1817, I was born. Ever since I was a little boy, I loved the great outdoors. My favorite thing to do was to take long walks in the woods. I loved to listen to the birds chirp, watch the busy squirrels run and play, and feel the warm sunshine on my face. Nature was my very best friend and my biggest, most wonderful classroom.

One day, I had a very big idea. I wanted to live right in the middle of all the trees and animals I loved. So, I found a beautiful, sparkling pond called Walden Pond. I built my own tiny, cozy cabin right next to the water. I lived there all by myself. I loved watching the seasons change. I saw the bright green leaves of summer turn into the quiet, white snow of winter. I learned so much from just being still and watching the wonderful world around me.

I loved my special time at the pond so much that I wrote a book about it to share my adventure with everyone. I called it 'Walden'. I wanted to show people how wonderful it is to listen to nature and live a simple, happy life. I lived to be 44 years old, and my story helps remind people to take good care of our beautiful Earth and to find joy in the quiet moments.
