Henry Hudson: The Great Explorer
Hello! My name is Henry Hudson. I was an explorer, which means I loved adventure! My favorite thing in the whole world was sailing on big wooden ships. Whoosh went the wind in the sails! I always dreamed of finding a secret, watery path to faraway lands.
In the year 1609, I was the captain of a special ship called the Half Moon. On that ship, I sailed across the big, big ocean. We saw so much blue water! Then, we found a beautiful, wide river. I sailed my ship right up it! It was so exciting to see a new place with tall trees and friendly animals.
Later, in the year 1610, I also sailed to a giant, chilly bay full of ice. My journey ended in those cold waters, but people still remember my adventures. That big river I found is named the Hudson River after me! And the giant, icy bay is called Hudson Bay. It makes me happy to know that my name lives on in those amazing places.
