Just want Hippocrates?
Hello. My name is Hippocrates. I lived a very, very long time ago in a sunny place called Greece. I was born around the year 460 BC. I loved to watch people. It was my favorite thing to do. I wanted to learn all about them. I especially wanted to learn how to help people when they felt sick or hurt. Helping others made me feel happy, and I knew it was a very important job.
In my time, some people thought that sickness was caused by magic. They believed that a magical spell could make you feel poorly. But I had a different idea. I did not think it was magic. I believed that being sick had real causes. Maybe you were not eating good food. Maybe you were not getting enough rest. I looked for clues to figure out what was wrong. I watched and I listened. Then I could find a way to make it better. I also taught other people who wanted to be doctors. I told them to always be kind, to listen carefully to everyone, and to always, always do their best to help.
My ideas helped many people feel better for many, many years. Even today, doctors all over the world make a special promise. It is a promise to always take good care of everyone, just like I taught them to do so long ago. I lived a long and happy life helping others, and I hope my story reminds you to always be kind and helpful, too.
