Just want Homi J. Bhabha?
Hello! My name is Homi Bhabha, and I want to tell you my story. I was born on October 30th, 1909, in a big, busy city in India called Bombay. My family had a huge library filled with books about science, music, and art. I loved spending my days reading and learning about how the world worked. I was always asking questions and imagining amazing new things, wondering about the secrets hidden in our universe.
When I grew up, I sailed all the way to England to study at a famous school called Cambridge University. My family hoped I would become an engineer, someone who builds bridges and machines. I did study engineering, but my real passion was physics—the science of the tiniest, most powerful particles that make up everything! I felt like a detective looking for clues about how the universe was built. I worked very hard and in 1935, I earned my special degree, a PhD, in physics. I especially loved studying the mysterious cosmic rays that travel through space.
After my studies, I returned home to India with a big dream. I wanted to create special places where Indian scientists could make their own amazing discoveries without having to travel far away. In 1945, I helped start a wonderful school called the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. It was a place for brilliant minds to study science and math. Then, in 1954, I helped create another important place to study atomic energy. I believed this powerful energy could be used for good things, like making electricity to power homes and hospitals all across India.

My life was full of adventure and science. In 1966, while traveling to a meeting, my journey ended in a plane crash. But my dreams for India never stopped. The science centers I helped build are still working hard today, making new discoveries and helping people. The atomic research center was even renamed the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre to honor me. People remember me as the person who helped India begin its journey into the incredible world of science and atomic energy, all to help build a brighter future.
