The story

Ibn Battuta

Hello! My name is Ibn Battuta. I lived a very long time ago in a place called Morocco. When I was a young man, I knew I wanted to see the world. I loved adventures and learning about new places and people. I could not wait to start my very own big trip.

When I was 21 years old, in the year 1325, I packed my bags and said goodbye to my family. My first trip was a long walk and a ride on a camel to a special city called Mecca. But after I got there, I did not want to stop traveling. I sailed on big boats across sparkly seas and rode on camels through sandy deserts. My trip was supposed to be short, but it lasted for almost 30 years.

I visited so many amazing lands. I saw the giant pyramids in Egypt and sailed down the big Nile River. I even met kings in India. I traveled all the way to China and saw beautiful things I had never even dreamed of. In every new place, I made new friends. I learned how they lived, what they ate, and the games they played. The world is such a big and exciting place.

After I finally came home, I told everyone my stories. A friend helped me write them all down in a book so we would never forget. I lived a long and happy life filled with adventure and was about 65 years old when my story ended. Today, people read my book to learn about the world from long ago. I am remembered as one of the greatest travelers who ever lived.
