Isambard Kingdom Brunel: The Great Builder

Hello! My name is Isambard Kingdom Brunel. I was born a long time ago, in the year 1806. When I was a little boy, I loved to draw and build things. My father was a famous builder, too, and I loved watching him create amazing things. I always knew that one day, I wanted to build big, important things that would help everyone.

And guess what? I did! I designed a super long bridge that stretches high up in the air over a river. I started the design in 1831. I also built a special railway for the fastest choo-choo trains to zoom across the country. My Great Western Railway opened in 1838. I even built the biggest, strongest ships in the whole wide world, made of iron, that could sail across giant oceans. One of my big ships was launched in 1837.

My big ideas made it easier and faster for people to travel and see new places. I lived to be 53 years old and my work ended in 1859. People still remember me today when they see my strong bridges, ride on railways I designed, or visit my giant ships. My big dreams are still making the world feel a little bit smaller.
