Hello. My name is Ivan Franko. I was born on August 27th, 1856, in a little village called Nahuievychi. When I was a little boy, I loved listening to stories. My mom and the people in my village told wonderful stories and sang beautiful songs. I learned how to read and write, and I loved books more than anything. I wanted to learn all about the world and write my own stories when I grew up.
When I got bigger, I became a writer. I used my words to make poems that sounded like songs. I also wrote exciting stories full of adventure. I wrote about the people of my country, Ukraine, because I loved them very much. In 1890, I wrote a special story just for children. It was about a very clever fox named Lys Mykyta. It was so much fun to think about all of his funny tricks.
I wrote and wrote for many years, sharing my love for Ukraine with everyone. I lived to be 59 years old. Today, people in Ukraine still read my poems and stories. They remember me as someone who loved to tell stories and who believed that words could make the world a better place.
