The story

Ivan Pavlov

Hello! My name is Ivan, and I was a scientist. A scientist is someone who loves to ask questions and learn new things. I loved animals very much, and my favorite animals were dogs. I was always very curious, which means I wanted to know how everything worked. I wondered how our bodies worked, and I also wondered how the bodies of our pets worked. It was so much fun for me to figure things out and understand the world around me.

I had many clever dog friends, and I wanted to understand their tummies. I noticed something very interesting about them. When it was almost dinnertime, my dogs would get so excited! Their mouths would get watery even before they could see or smell their food. They just knew it was coming! This made me ask a question, so I decided to do a little experiment. An experiment is a special way to find an answer. Every day, right before I gave my dogs their yummy dinner, I would ring a little bell. Ding-dong! After doing this for a while, just the sound of the bell made them think of their dinner.

My dogs taught me something amazing about how we all learn. They learned that the sound of the little bell meant that food was on its way. This discovery was very important, and it helped other scientists understand how animals and people learn new things, too. I lived to be 86 years old, and I was so happy that my work with my wonderful dogs helped the world. People still learn about my ideas and my clever dogs today.
