Just want Jean de La Fontaine?
Hello. My name is Jean de La Fontaine, and I love telling stories. A long, long time ago, I was born in a place called France. When I was a boy, my favorite thing to do was walk through the forests and fields. I would sit very still and watch the animals. I watched busy ants, clever foxes, and slow-but-steady tortoises. I always wondered what they would say if they could talk.
So, I decided to write stories where they could. I wrote special stories called fables. In my fables, animals act just like people. They can be silly, smart, grumpy, or kind. Have you ever heard the story of the tortoise and the hare? That’s one of mine. The speedy hare took a nap during a race, but the slow tortoise just kept going and going until he won.
I lived to be 73 years old, writing my stories for everyone to enjoy. Today, children and grown-ups all around the world still read my fables. My animal friends help remind us of important lessons, like how it’s good to work hard and that being slow and steady can help you win the race.
