Just want Johann Strauss II?
Hello! My name is Johann Strauss II, and I am a composer. Many people know me by my nickname, 'The Waltz King!' I was born in a lovely suburb of Vienna, Austria, on October 25th, 1825. My father, Johann Strauss I, was also a very famous composer. You might think he would have wanted me to become a musician just like him, but he had a different plan for me. He wanted me to become a banker. But my heart was always filled with melodies and rhythms, and I simply couldn't imagine a life without music. Thankfully, my mother understood my passion. With her support, I began taking violin lessons in secret so my father wouldn't find out.
Learning music without my father's knowledge was quite a challenge, but I was determined to follow my dream. When I felt I was ready, I decided to form my own orchestra in 1844. My very first performance was scheduled at a popular venue in Vienna called Dommayer's Casino on October 15th, 1844. I remember feeling so nervous that night! My father's music was beloved all over the city, and I worried that people wouldn't enjoy mine. But to my surprise and delight, they loved it! The audience cheered and applauded, and before long, my orchestra became just as famous as my father's. We even became friendly rivals, competing to see whose music the people of Vienna liked best.
After my father passed away in 1849, I decided to combine his orchestra and mine into one large, incredible group. This marked a turning point, and my career began to soar. I wrote music that was full of energy and joy, making people want to leap to their feet and dance. I composed many polkas and quadrilles, but I became most famous for my waltzes. In 1866, I wrote one of my most celebrated pieces, 'The Blue Danube,' a waltz that makes you feel as if you are gracefully floating down a beautiful river. A couple of years later, in 1868, I wrote another favorite, 'Tales from the Vienna Woods.' My fame grew, and I traveled the world, taking my music as far as Russia and even to America in 1872.

After composing hundreds of dances, I felt the urge to try something new and challenge myself creatively. I turned my attention to writing operettas, which are a bit like short, funny operas. They include singing and dancing, but also have characters who speak their lines. My most famous operetta is called 'Die Fledermaus,' which translates to 'The Bat.' It had its premiere performance in 1874 and tells a very silly story about a grand party and a clever prank. People adored it, and its success proved that I could write more than just waltzes.
In my lifetime, I composed over 500 pieces of music, from waltzes to operettas. I lived to be 73 years old and passed away in my beloved city of Vienna in 1899. Although I am gone, my music continues to fill concert halls and ballrooms around the world. Today, people still twirl and dance to my waltzes at elegant balls and happy celebrations. If you ever have a chance to watch the famous New Year's Concert from Vienna, you will almost certainly hear my music bringing joy to a new generation, which is all I ever hoped for.
