Hello. My name is Juan Sebastián Elcano. I was born in Spain a long, long time ago. When I was a little boy, I loved to watch the big, blue sea. I learned how to sail on big wooden ships. Their sails were so giant and white, they looked like fluffy clouds in the sky. I always dreamed of going on a super long adventure across the wide ocean.
One day, I got to go on the biggest trip of all. In the year 1519, I joined a group of ships to try and sail all the way around the world. We sailed for many, many days. We sailed for weeks, and we sailed for months. We saw amazing new places and sailed across a giant ocean called the Pacific. My special ship was named the Victoria. She was a strong and brave ship, and my crew was strong and brave, too.
After a very, very long time, in the year 1522, we finally saw our home again. My ship, the Victoria, was the first ship ever to make it all the way around the world. We did it. I lived a life full of adventure on the sea. Today, people remember me and my brave crew for showing everyone just how big and round our amazing world is.
