Hello! My name is Khafre. I was a king, called a pharaoh, in a place called Egypt a very, very long time ago. My father was also a great pharaoh, and his name was Khufu. Being a pharaoh was a very big job. I worked hard to take care of all my people in my kingdom. Part of my job was to build amazing things that would last for a very long time. I wanted everyone to see the wonderful things we could make together.
I built a very special house just for me. It was not a regular house—it was a giant pyramid! My pyramid is the second-biggest one in a place called Giza, and it stands right next to the pyramid my father built. To watch over my pyramid, I had a giant statue built. It is called the Great Sphinx. The Sphinx is very special because it has the strong body of a lion, but its head looks just like me! It has been sitting in the sand for thousands of years, guarding my pyramid.
I lived a very long time ago and had a full life. Even today, people from all over the world can come to Egypt to see my giant pyramid and the amazing Great Sphinx. My buildings have stood for thousands and thousands of years. They help people remember me and learn the story of ancient Egypt.
